“Technology is both a tool for helping humans and for destroying them. This is the paradox of our times.”
Eye-catching, vivid pictures were my first love in life. I fondly remember having a desk drawer full of aesthetic images that I found as a kid in magazines, brochures and what not. Any paper near me turned into a drawing canvas. And I crafted my first cardboard monitor, keyboard and mouse to play ‘computer’ long before I was able to buy a pc myself.
In adult life, I specialised in a range of digital marketing, communication and project management skills, which I combine in crafting creative communication strategies and digital art projects today.
The nature of that work makes that I spend a lot of time online. I love nerding out on the internet, and I get very energised about emerging technologies (such as VR/AR, AI, Web3, …) that help improve our lives and refine the human-tech interface. They can be such great tools for boundless creation, connection, learning and building.
Yet interacting with modern digital tools & content also makes me think - a lot. Digital media nowadays is crafted in such compelling and seamless ways that we’re often not even consciously aware of the effects it has on our mental state. Whereas we used to say ‘brb’, the internet and the rest of life don’t seem to have boundaries between each other anymore today. Attention spans and dopamine systems are getting ruined. Not to mention the influence of AI.
With Summit Studios, I explore the interplay between new technologies and the human condition through new media observation and digital communication.
Let’s consciously climb the curve, and carefully cultivate the peak.
